Ganesh Utsav remains the most popular festival in Nagpur with celebrations taking place in every nook and cranny of the city. Residents joyously join in for the ten day festivities that are a part of the culture of Maharashtra. This annual feature has Ganesh idols decoratively installed, followed by great pomp and revelry. The entire city comes alive to celebrate the occasion.
Dussehra festivities too are a huge draw for Nagpurians when Kasturchand Park in the city center becomes the venue for lighting up the effigies of the demon king Ravana in late evening. The festival celebrates the triumph of good over evil. In Nagpur the day also commemorates Dr Ambedkars effort for interested people to be initiated to Buddhism.
The Deeksha Bhoomi comes alive with a multitude of people pouring in from all parts of the country. The huge Buddhist Stupa with well laid gardens becomes the venue for the new initiates to celebrate the festivities that include exhibitions and pageantry.
Kalidas Festival is celebrated in Ramtek near Nagpur in fond memory of the great Sanskrit poet and dramatist. Each year in November the venue has renowned exponents of music, dance and drama performing in a picturesque setting, celebrating the glorious heritage.
